This online resource features some of the records relating to homesteading held at the Provincial Archives of Alberta. The resource helps show how the Province was divided into sections and quarter sections, and the types of records in the homestead files, records which were maintained by the Federal Government about quarter sections of land. The project is intended to introduce students and teachers to the wealth of documentary history found at the Provincial Archives of Alberta. We have included a number of maps along with the homestead files, as well as additional records for a few of the homesteaders. These are digital reproductions of the original material housed in the Provincial Archives of Alberta. Archival records are an excellent way to understand historical events - they are primary sources, not secondary sources; archival records relate the experiences of those who participated through their own words and images.
