We Preserve
The Provincial Archives of Alberta is responsible for the safekeeping of both Government of Alberta records with enduring value and other records and resources considered to be of historical and cultural significance to the people of Alberta.
If our documented heritage is to survive it must receive care, both collectively and individually, to ensure long-term accessibility to archival and library materials and information.
Conservation Lab
Our lab is dedicated to the cleaning, repair and custom housing of records that have deteriorated over a number of years and require special preservation attention. Large tables allow for easier handling and treatment of oversized items such as maps and blueprints. Fume hoods provide ventilation when solvents are being prepared for use, and flexible exhausts can be positioned as needed over tables to allow fumes to ventilate during treatments.
Preservation Resources
The Provincial Archives of Alberta's preservation interests extend outside its own holdings and into the personal and private collections of all Albertans interested in conserving their genealogical artifacts for future generations. Our team has created a guide to the basics of preservation addressing some of the more common problems encountered when caring for historical items and records in your own home.
