Riverland Recreational Trail Society fonds

Founded by a team of recreationists and members of the Elk Point Historical Society in 1999, the Riverland Recreational Trail Society is mandated to coordinate the development of Alberta’s Iron Horse Trail section of the Trans Canada Trail. The trail started with 34 kilometres of abandoned Canadian National railroad, and now stretches over 300 kilometres across central and eastern Alberta, starting in Waskatenau, splitting in Abilene, and ending in Cold Lake in the north and Heinsburg in the south. It is open year-round and is used for hiking, cycling, horseback riding, UTV, snowmobiling, and wagon rides. The Iron Horse Trail is currently the longest completed section of the Trans Canada Trail in Alberta.

The fonds includes trail maps, activity guides, blog posts, press releases, news articles, photographs, and correspondence pertaining to the opening of the Iron Horse Trail and 2005 Centennial events, as well as administrative material for the Riverland Recreational Trail Society such as budgets, newsletters, correspondence, and operational handbooks.
