Alberta’s 1978 Court of Appeal Act changed the name of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Alberta to the Court of Appeal of Alberta effective June 30, 1979. Continuing a tradition dating back to the Supreme Court of the North-West Territories, the Court of Appeal hears appeals from the Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench, and its decisions can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada.
