Tragedy in Crowsnest Pass.
Florence (Filumena) Lassandro occupies a unique place in Alberta legal history. Convicted of the murder of Alberta Provincial Police Constable Stephen Lawson, she was sentenced to death with her co-accused, Emil Picariello. Unlike other Alberta women whose criminal sentences were commuted to life in prison, Lassandro was hanged at the Fort Saskatchewan Jail on May 22, 1923, the only woman ever executed in Alberta.
