Establishing a provincial court system.
Established in 1907 by the District Courts Act, Alberta's District Courts heard less serious criminal and civil offences in judicial districts around the province, such as offenses involving less than $400. Its decisions could be appealed to the Supreme Court of Alberta. District Courts were also responsible for wills, probates and early workmen's compensation cases. After having heard hundreds of thousands of cases, District Courts merged into the Court of Queen's Bench effective June 1979 through the Court of Queen's Bench Act of 1978.
