Protecting rights and best interests.
Alberta’s Surrogate Courts Act of 1967 established a new court division to administer probates and appoint guardians for children and vulnerable adults. The Surrogate Court of Alberta is unusual in that it never existed as an independent court, created initially within the District Courts and, after 1979, as an office within the Court of Queen’s Bench. The Act was repealed effective April 1, 2001.
