Tending the machinery of justice.
As early as 1878, the courts of the North-West Territories had clerks who received and filed records of court proceedings, kept a record of all proceedings, registered the judgments of the court, and managed monies received or paid out. Continuing their role in the new Province of Alberta, clerks also registered mortgages, partnerships and documents related to land. Transitioning from ink and ledgers to online databases, clerks continue to work in every judicial district in Alberta through the Court Services Division of the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General.
