Closing a chapter.
After arresting Robert Raymond Cook for attempting to trade in his family’s car for another vehicle, police made the gruesome discovery that his entire family had been murdered. Committed to a mental asylum prior to trial, Cook escaped for several days, sparking one of Alberta’s largest manhunts and striking fear into rural Alberta residents. After his capture, he was tried and found guilty. Sentenced to death, he died on November 15, 1960, the last man executed in Alberta.
