“It has happened and cannot now be altered.”

In 1944, tensions between German fascists and communists in Camp 132, a prisoner of war camp near Medicine Hat, led to the murder of Karl Lehmann by his fellow prisoners Willi Mueller, Henrich Busch, Bruno Perzenowski and Walter Wolf. Despite a concerted campaign to save their lives, the execution of the four conspirators convicted of Lehmann’s murder took place in December 1946, five months after the camp closed.
