“Misrepresentation and threats and undue influence.”
Rose Menuier discovered that her Métis scrip (a certificate redeemable for land) had been sold without her knowledge or permission to McDougall & Secord, an Edmonton land company using it to develop part of the townsite of Mannville. After she filed claim to restore her title to the land, agents of McDougall & Secord allegedly coerced her into signing a new deed, using a $500 bribe and the threat of imprisoning her father. The case was ultimately dismissed.
